Dr. Douglas Higgin
Dr. Doug Higgin earned his Science Degree in 1988, followed by an Education degree. After teaching for a number of years, he followed his passion and completed medical school at the University of Calgary and his Family Medicine residency in 1999. After graduation, Dr. Higgin practiced Family Medicine and Rural Emergency Medicine in Black Diamond for 13 years, where he was Chief of Staff for 6 of those years. During this time, he was able to combine his love of teaching with the field of medicine by being actively involved as a preceptor for medical students and residents. Dr. Higgin completed his special competency in Emergency Medicine in 2007. He has practiced Urgent Care medicine for the last 9 years. He was recruited to help plan and open Cochrane Urgent Care, and had been in an administrative role with Alberta Health Services for 6 years, recently leaving this behind to pursue his interests in Sports Medicine. From his Emergency and Urgent Care experience, Dr. Higgin has a wealth of knowledge in treating clients with acute sports injury. He believes that exercise is medicine and that keeping people active is of primary importance when it comes to long-term health and quality of life.
Dr. Doug Higgin is a native Calgarian who has been actively involved raising his 3 children with his wife Rene. He has a love for travel and adventure and has travelled extensively including many great camping trips in and around the mountains and enjoys participating in many sports and activities including golf, hockey, and hiking.
