Dr. Jim Thorne’s sports medicine journey began in the 1990s. Since then, he has covered many sports events and is a well-known figure in the international sport medicine scene.

He was the Head Physician for the Calgary Stampeders from 1998-2021 before passing the reigns to Dr. David Manning, Group23 CEO. During that time, he supported players in nine Grey Cups, with five wins.

He has been on the medical staff for Team Canada Hockey since 1995 covering more than 60 Hockey Canada tournaments, including 19 Spengler Cups with five wins, a Gold at the World Cup of Hockey (2004), a Gold at the World Juniors (1997), four Gold’s at the Men’s Hockey World Championships, and many other Hockey Canada events. He was privileged to be the Team Doctor for four Olympic Games, supporting the first Gold medal win in 50 years at Salt Lake City (2002), a dramatic home win in Vancouver (2010), and the first Gold on big ice outside of North America at Sochi (2014).

Dr. Thorne began his medical career in family practice, where he honed his skills from 1984-2014, before committing to sport and exercise medicine.
