Dr. Neil Cooper
Dr. Neil Cooper is a Pediatrician and Sports Medicine Physician, one of only a handful in the country. He graduated from University of Calgary Medical School in 1990 and completed pediatric residency at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in 1994. Since 1994 he has had an active practice in Pediatrics in Calgary. Dr. Cooper’s involvement in playing and coaching football caused him to explore and then study sports medicine and he completed his Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2007.
He is the team physician for the Calgary Colts Junior Football team and has covered multiple other sports events. He has traveled extensively as the team physician with Samaritan’s purse providing medical care (and shoe box gifts) in several third world countries.
He has had a long involvement with the Child Abuse Service at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and currently works as a consulting pediatrician at the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre.
Dr. Cooper is also Medical Director and Vice President for Dreams Take Flight, a National charity that takes about 135 challenged children from Calgary on a one day adventure of a lifetime to Disneyland each fall. (yyc.dreamstakeflight.ca)
Dr. Cooper is very involved in improving the functioning of the health care system. He is a board member of the Alberta Medical Association and sits on and chairs several committees. In 2017 / 2018 he will be the President of the Alberta Medical Association.
Dr. Cooper is married and has 3 grown children. Vacation time will usually find him under water on some tropical island.
